Sharing the Love of Travel: Under the Savannah Skies

BEAUTY BEYOND EXPECTATION

Nancy and Russ are avid travellers who love to experience new locations side by side. Their favourite travel experiences immerse them in a mix of dazzling scenery and interesting cultures, and they always return with countless cherished memories of the time they spend together.  South Africa & Victoria Falls wasn’t this couple’s first adventure abroad, but they were surprised by the breathtaking scenery. 

”People expect Alaska to be beautiful, but I don’t think they expect Africa to be that stunning. We were surprised by how beautiful the scenery was everywhere. The terrain and the views were incredible. One lodge was also incredible—like something from the movies. There was even an outdoor shower!” From the moment they arrived, they filled their camera rolls with pictures of the bright blue skyline, the surrounding scenery, and moments of local life. And just like that, South Africa secured its place among their favourite adventures together.

IN EXPERT HANDS

The pair remarked how well supported they were by their Group Guru, and how inspiring it was to get so much hands-on knowledge from their passionate national guide. They felt immersed in the rich history, diverse culture, and the pride that locals feel for their home country. The all-inclusive aspect made the adventure completely worry-free. The consistent passion from each person they met was the cherry on top! 

“We appreciated how aware and supportive everyone was. If we needed something, the team helped us do it safely,” Russ said. On their last safari day in Chobe, Russ joked to their safari driver that they hadn’t seen lions yet. Eager to help the pair check off the last of the Big Five, he took them straight to a pride. Baby elephants splashing at the waterhole and majestic giraffes rounded out a perfect finale to their safari experience. It was the kind of moment that reminded them why they travel together – to share awe-inspiring moments with someone you love. 

SEAMLESS FROM START TO FINISH

Nancy and Russ noticed thoughtful touches and attention to detail that made them feel cared for at every stop. “Rich was one of the best guides,” Russ said. “And you could tell that he truly loved his country. Susan was incredible too.” Their Group Guru smoothed out any logistics on the tour, and set the tone by keeping group dynamics alive. 

Our Gurus love to go the extra mile to celebrate marriage anniversaries, birthdays, and other momentous occasions. And it makes each group gradually feel like they’re becoming family! Thanks to their Guru and guides, water was always available, logistics flowed seamlessly, and Russ and Nancy never needed to worry about getting a meal or scheduling a new excursion. Without any stressful logistics weighing down on them, they felt free to go from place to place and enjoy their experience to the fullest. 

NEW DISCOVERIES TOGETHER, NEW MEMORIES TOGETHER

Victoria Falls left them speechless. “It was like Niagara Falls on steroids—just incredible,” Russ recalled. They visited during peak flow season and saw the full force of one of the world’s natural wonders. Each day brought new highlights: the geological marvel of Bourke’s Potholes, the sweeping panorama from Table Mountain, and the excitement of seeing so many animals thrive in their own habitat. Together, they were creating a collection of moments they’d never forget. 

A spontaneous market visit was one of Nancy’s standout memories.  When the vendors noticed she felt indecisive about buying a skirt, they asked about her preferred material and style, took her measurements, and created a custom piece on the spot—complete with pockets. “It felt like the whole market was involved,” she remembered fondly. “I love that skirt.” 

Food was another highlight of the journey. “The food was amazing. Always plentiful and so good. We never went hungry,” Nancy said. Abundant buffets featuring local cuisine, South African wines, and dining experiences at authentic African restaurants created a culinary adventure alongside the physical one. 

As they headed back home, still in awe, they felt that their experience surpassed everything that they expected—from the people they met to the sites they saw. 

LIVING TO THE FULLEST

Russ and Nancy travel for the sense of adventure. They love to see new sites and experience every destination to the fullest. The pair also loves to learn from their travels by visiting historic sites and speaking to locals about their lifestyle. Every moment is an opportunity to live fully, and they intend to take every single one together. 

They urge other couples who dream of adventure to take as many photos as possible, and to also learn about the history of the place they’re visiting.  “We do this while we’re still mobile and able,” Nancy said. “We live in a seniors community and a lot of people tell us: travel while you can. If you wait too long, you never know what can happen.”
