The food and wine were excellent, the cities and towns were fascinating, and the scenery was consistently beautiful. We especially enjoyed how much the landscape changed between Porto and Lagos.
The itinerary offered a wonderful mix of cultural, historical, and culinary experiences. We visited wineries and an olive oil producer, toured palaces, monuments, museums, churches, and monasteries, enjoyed a river cruise, and learned how to make Queijo de Azeitão, a traditional cheese from the Azeitão region. Learning about cork harvesting in Coruche was also a highlight and gave us a deeper appreciation for an important Portuguese industry.
Our time in the Algarve was truly magical, with its stunning beaches, dramatic cliffs, and breathtaking coastal views. A Fado performance was another memorable cultural experience.
The people on this tour made it exceptional. Our Approach Guru, Gail, went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly and that guests had a wonderful experience. Sonia, our National Guide, accompanied us throughout and shared extensive cultural and historical insights about Portugal and its regions. Our two luxury coach drivers were also outstanding, navigating both highways and narrow historic streets with skill and care.
The tour began and ended in Lisbon and provided an excellent overview of Portugal’s history, culture, food, wine, and landscapes. We would highly recommend it. There is a fair amount of walking and some hilly terrain, but the experiences along the way make it well worth it.
