April was a good time to go, I’m not fond of heat and the temps of 5 in the morning warming to 17-22 in the afternoon was perfect. There were 25 in our group and this was ideal. April was a good time to go, I’m not fond of heat and the temps of 5 in the morning warming to 17-22 in the afternoon was perfect. There were 25 in our group and this was ideal. Our tour guide, Alma, from Bosnia did a good job of keeping us on a schedule, and unfortunately it’s important to have a schedule to see everything in a day. Now’s a good time to say that these tours are not laidback and relaxing. We saw a lot of country and that means up early and usually long days. Lots of walking and lots of steps. I felt the pace was pretty much perfect and most of us in our group kept up beautifully. Although we did let out a big cheer when our start time was 9:30 AM a couple of days!!!! Breakfasts were always at the hotel and I was very comfortable with the offerings. I never heard anyone complain. Coffee selection was always from a machine and it was a real treat to have a cappuccino each morning. Lunches were a large meal, more like dinner to me!!! For the most part, they were pretty good. If we were served soup, it was always good. Dinners were either at a local restaurant or in the hotel. With exception to the buffet served in the hotel, these meals were set, no choice. But for the most part, they were good and even delicious a few times. I eat most anything so I was totally satisfied but a few people with more specific preferences were occasionally disappointed with their meals. I will say I felt we were served too much chicken and I was disappointed that we did not get seafood with the exception of some fish one day!! The local guides were pretty good and these tours were always short and sweet. Usually we got free time after a tour and this was anywhere from 45 min to a couple of hours, just depended on the day. We were on tour in the shoulder season but it was still very busy with tourists. Crowds are the norm. Our hotels are fine. I had hoped for them to be in the city centres but this was not the case. But I knew this ahead of time. With exception of 1 hotel, the rooms were spacious and nicely appointed. They were larger hotels with adequate infrastructure for the big bus we had. During the day, we visited and experienced a wide variety of activities and I was very impressed how wide spread our experiences were. This was definitely not a tour of churches bridges and museums(though we did see plenty). We experienced lakes, waterfalls, castles and underground wonderlands!!! This tour was 5 star but I must say that our group of Canadians that I travelled with heavily influenced my rating. But most important was our Guru, Cynthia!! She was “top shelf”. She was amazing and really made this a 5 * trip. I am already booked for another trip next year and I hope either she leads that trip or someone equally as wonderful !!! I have travelled my fair share and travelling with Canadians is so darn “refreshing” !!!!!
